Tuesday Morning Coffee Talk – 11/17

“The Call”

I’m back baby!!! Did you miss me? I have to apologize for the unexpected hiatus, especially during one of the biggest weeks of the season for the Patriots. However, it was an unavoidable instance and from what I can understand and I have been rest assured that all of the technical issues are behind us which means we’re back to all football all the time!!!

Ok, so let’s get right to it. We’re skipping over the headlines for this morning because, let’s face it, there is a lot to catch up on after Sunday night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

So, let’s get right to “the call.” By this point, if you didn’t know that Bill Belichick made an interesting call to go for it one 4th-and-2 from their own 28-yard line you must be living under a rock. It has been the most talked about playcall this season which is never good news. You can choose the adjective you want, but I have personally heard people refer to the call as stupid, carless, gutsy, and smart among others. That’s quite the array of adjectives.

In my opinion, I loved it. I feel much better about the Patriots in a loss where they went for the jugular and tried to win, then I would have in a loss where they played not to lose. I’m not sure I would have ran that play, but hindsight is 20/20. And, while we will obviously never know if Peyton Manning could have led the Colts down half of the field after a punt, I honestly can say that I believe they would have lost regardless. Manning was playing on an incredibly high level at the end of that game and it wouldn’t have mattered if he had to go 60 yards or 6 yards… he was going to get the score. So, the best thing the Patriots could do was try to win the game while they had the ball. That’s what they did, and it didn’t work.

I know this probably sounds like I am coming across like a Belichick apologist, and maybe I am, but either way I left this game with a lot more confidence then I had going into it. Yes, the defense clearly needs some work and Belichick will be on these guys to remember how they let the Colts back in this one; however, the Patriots proved that they can hang with the big boys in the league once again.

I’ll be on Twitter all day long, chatting up the Pats and defending my own viewpoints. Come follow along and hit me up.
