Fantasy Pick of the Week: Week 7
October 23rd, 2009 | by PatsChowder |Fantasy Pick of the Week
Last week, I picked Tom Brady not because he’s a no brainer, but because the match up was amazing. I almost had the numbers pegged, but my prognostication of 4 touchdowns fell short… by two. That being said, there is one player that the fantasy football world is absolutely raving about this week. Partially it’s because injuries have opened the door, partially it’s because he has amazing talent when healthy, and partially it’s because his position is so thin this year it’s worth a roll of the dice. This week’s Fantasy Pick of the Week is…

Laurence Maroney
We’ve all been burned. Anyone who has ever owned Laurence Maroney in a fantasy football league has felt the wrath of his disappointment. But, I suppose I’m falling for him again despite the fair warning from Ed Ryan at the Boston Globe. Nevertheless, I picked him up this week, and I’m going to play him.
It was only a week ago that I, myself, was critical of the Patriots running back. I’ve been on board the Sammy Morris bandwagon all season, but we all know that Maroney is the only one with the potential to be great. Not just serviceable. Great.
This week, we finally saw a glimpse of it. Maroney rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown on only 16 carries against a very respectable Tennessee rush defense. In the snow. Now he heads to London as the primary running back against a horrible rush defense on a 0-6 team. This is just the opportunity for Maroney to let everyone down, but there are too many positives to sit him on your bench.
Prediction: 75-95 rushing yards, 1 touchdown. This prediction is ultra conservative. He SHOULD go for far more than this, but I want to see him do it more than once before I really start to get on the bandwagon.
