Thursday Morning Coffee Talk – 10/22

Catching Up on All the Action

After some unforeen issues yesterday there is quite a bit to catch up on so let’s dive right into the headlines. I hope you’ve all had your coffee!

CT

The Patriots cut wide receiver Joey Galloway, and resigned Tully Banta-Cain and Eric Alexander all at the same time. Galloway clearly wasn’t a fit for this team and Banta-Cain clearly was. The reason for the releases and resignings: the deals were unable to be renegotiated at the end of the season because he was signed to a minimum salary benefit deal. Now that he has a new contract he can be extended at the end of the year.

Rookie wide receiver Julian Edelman has suffered a broken arm. With the Galloway release, this opens up some questions, and opportunities, in the Patriots passing game.

Don’t think there wasn’t an opportunity to leave either. According to the National Football Post Banta-Cain fielded offers from at least four teams during his brief free agent stint.

One of those interesting options, rookie wide receiver Brandon Tate was back on the practice field after coming off of the PUP-list.

The Providence Journal believes that Gary Guyton has stepped out as the “unlikely leader” of the Patriots defense.

I really don’t know what to make of the Bill Belichick’s benching of Adalius Thomas. It sounds like he’s pissed off the linebacker, which can serve as motivation or as a distraction. My money is on motivation in the short term, but I’m a little concerned about the long term.
