Tom Brady is Not THAT Good

Tom Brady is Not THAT Good

That was a performance for the ages. 380 yards, 6 touchdowns. Ridiculous. And you know what, I’m just not that sold on Tom Brady being “back.”

Tom Brady

It’s not that I didn’t see the same game as everyone else. I did. I saw the Patriots offense shredding the Titans secondary firmly keeping their foot on the throat of a downed victim. No mercy. No emotion. It was ruthless. It was awesome.

However, I am still concerned about the passing attack. Not one of the six touchdown passes that Brady threw was contested in any way, shape, or form. Wes Welker and Randy Moss were wide open all day long, and I’m not talking about being open in that “wow he really beat him off the line” type of way. It was more like, “where the hell was ANY of the coverage” type of open.

But I ask you all to think back to the Denver game. Yes, the now 6-0 Broncos posed a much greater challenge and we saw significantly different results. Do you still remember Tom Brady overthrowing Randy Moss after beating the coverage? Do you still remember the miscommunication between Brady and Wes Welker? I know I do, and while the rest of the football world is talking about how Brady is back and that he has once again reached top form I am still concerned that we are going to see a good helping of shaky performances down the stretch.

If the old Brady was back under center, I would be confident that he could throw 6 touchdowns on any defense in the league. In 2007, he threw for at least four touchdowns against Miami, Dallas, and Pittsburgh. Not just the paltry 0-6 teams. Right now, I’m buying in that this was a good sign that Brady is getting closer to being himself again. But, that is it. A sign. He’s not all the way back. As the season goes on, he’ll get better and better. Unfortunately (or fortunately), we aren’t going to get a great match up until week 10 when the Patriots play the Indianapolis Colts so we’ll have to wait until then to revisit this issue.

Until then, keep in the back of your mind that Brady’s success might not be a big indicator of his progress. It might just be the ineptitude of the defense he’s presented with… like the 0-6 Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week.

randy moss was in triple coverage on the first TD.. It was in the snow, which is MUCH harder to throw/catch.. so regardless of lack of coverage throwing/catching decreases (ala titans QB’s ) brady just happen to have his most accurate game by far..

yes i do agree he isn’t completly back but he is damn close
