Rodney Harrison on Tom Brady

October 6th, 2009 | by PatsChowder |

Brady, Harrison Feuding?

By now, if you haven’t head the comments you must be living under a rock. But, just to catch everyone up, Rodney Harrison urged Tom Brady to “take off the skirt” after asking for a flag on a suspect roughing the passer call. The Golden Boy responded on WEEI Monday morning by saying “Rodney’s been fined more than any other player in the NFL, and I can understand why he’s a little sensitive to cheap shots at the quarterback.”

Both of these comments have been posted all over the internet in an attempt to spark a feud or show Harrison’s disloyalty to the Patriots or something. What isn’t explained is that both of these guys were admittedly joking around about the whole thing. In all honesty, when I first heard the comments on Rodney’s side I instantly knew he was just taking a jab at a former teammate. Brady took it the same way.

“Rodney’s like my brother, man. I love Rodney,” said Brady. “Nothing Rodney could ever say could bother me. If I was a football player, I’d be Rodney Harrison. He played with all heart, we won two Super Bowls together, and he was a huge part of why we won them. He hits as hard on TV as he did when he was playing.”

As a side note, that call was ridiculous, but hey the NFL has established that the roughing the passer call is absolutely ludicrous. There is no rhyme or reason. Quarterbacks basically can get a flag if someone talks about their mama. So, do I have a problem with the call? Yeah. I have a problem with the whole rule; however, if they want to continue to establish that these are the type of hits that get flags… what can you do.

Eventually, the NFL will strap flags around the quarterbacks’ waists or go to “two-hand-touch” rules.

One Response to “Rodney Harrison on Tom Brady”

I agree with everything you said in this piece. It was a weak call, but that’s just the trend these rules are heading in.
